Default Mini mac's for music, gps, computing

Tozo and guys, I thought you would be interested in this:

A place in NY was recently profiled in the NY Times for for their work placing mini macs in car dashes for all of the above.

the web address of the place is:

http://www.classicresto.com/

Look on the lower left where it says "Mini mac installs have begun".

The NY Times article can be found at:
Tozo, this one's for you!

http://tech2.nytimes.com/mem/technology/techreview.html?res=9E06E3DB163CF933A25750C0A9639C 8B63</a

Default Re: Mini mac's for music, gps, computing

I've got a mac mini in hand , I'm picking up a 2000 A8 on monday AM. I'm all in. Now I just have to figure out what to buy and how to do it . Virtual PC might allow the vag tool to run. I want tozo's feature set running on the mac. I can figure out the mac stuff. I've been a mac owner since 1985,

Whip me beat me make me write checks.

Default The mini motherboard i use actually fits in my dash.

Unloke tozo's setup i didnt have a laptop to use. I found a Mini-itx motherboard that fits behind my touchscreen. The motherboard is about 6 inches square and has everything built in. Its a P4- 3.06 with USB/Firewire/Lan/Sound and VGA onboard.
The one thing i like about tozos setup it that he can pull out of the car and go if needed.

Default I just checked, non of my GPS software works on mac.

Teletype GPS ( my favorite ), Microsoft Street & Trips, DeLorme Topo 4.0, Vag-com, XM Radio, they all require Windows 98 and up.

These could all run under Virtual PC. Micrsoft bought Connectix 2 years ago and added it to Office Professional for Mac. The question is all the hardware interfaces ( cables ) .

The NY Times article passes over this issue quickly so there may be no issues running the same software on a mac. Virtual PC puts the whole OS into a "drive image" . You can run multiple instances of Microsoft OS's . So when you add a Mac MIni you could have MacOS X , Windows 98, Windows XP , and Linux all running simultaneously sharing the hardware.

Has anyone successfully run the Ross VAG tool under Virtual PC ? I'm tryng to buy a Panasonic toughbook from a friend ( he's not selling yet ) to do this.
