On my radio, was waiting on the dealer only to find out that it was written on the back side of the radio, some theft protection scheme that is. It has since been taken off the radio.

The radio has to be pulled out of the dash with "special radio removal tools". The serial number will be on a label on the unit.

You could (a) procure the removal tools (eBay), (b) make your own using a Dremel and file folder hangers, or (c) have the $tealer do it for you.

I wasn't given the code when I purchased my facelift '99 model, and only discovered the painful truth when the battery went.
However, a quick call to the original supplying dealer in bonny Scotland remedied the situation. They had written the code on the inside label of the spare wheel well in the boot/trunk.
It may be worth a look.
