MMI MALFUNCTION

I am one month into leasing my Black/Platinum 04' A8L and loving it. I previously owned an Black/Black 04 A6 2.7T for three months but then traded it in for the A8L. I have been following the forum and appreciating everyone's comments and advice. Now my issue. The past two mornings the MMI screen and for lack of a better term "the MMI contol panel" have not been working when I start up the car after it has sat overnight for about 10 hours. The lights on the control panel are not on. Now after my drive to work which is about 35 minutes I restart the car and everythibng works. I have a call into my service manager and wtg to hear back from them but I have 2 questions (i have searched the forum but could not find anything):
1. should I be concerned that this is the first sign of battery/electrical troubles to be had?
2. if the MMI is not working is there any way to manually work the radio or cd player or anything that runs off the MMI;
sorry for the long post and waht may seem basic questions.
Thanks...Joe

You mean that it doesnt open immediately upon ignition? If it does open with in 4-5 seconds, you are experiencing what many of us do with this screen. There is no apparent reasoning as to why it opens when it does. I had a "new" MMI system put in after 3100 miles and the "new" system does exactly the same thing! It becomes less of an issue with me as time goes on.

When you start your car in the moring give it about a minute or so. Stop it then start the car again. Try to rule out it being a time related issue. The car has its own safety system built in that will disable electrical components in the car to preserve the battery. Even with Greenies car it never took out the MMI...
If you restart the car and the screen still does not come up. Drive to work. Stop and restart like you did before. When it comes up check the battery life. If its low then you might have some sort of power issues, which the stealer will need to resolve. While your there ask for an RS6 loaner ;-)
If the restart trick works before you go to work, check the battery life. (Greeenie or someone else please chime in with the sequence of buttons needed to get to the onscreen battery meter) If its low then you know you got a power system thats not working right. Don't feel bad the dealer at Audi of HV keeps their showroom A8 with two wires hanging out the trunk going to a battery charging system.

it doesn't open at all and cannot be opened by pressing the button on the dash. the MMI control panel that's behind the gearbox is not lit up at all. The screen haphazardly opening and opening when I start the iginition does not bother me. This issue though I'm a little concerned. I have an appt friday to have audi look at it. Thanks for the response.
