Default What would you do to duplicate "S mode" in "Tip mode"?

Does tranny coding just remain aggressive with adaptive learning (which I found extremely annoying) defeated.

Default S Mode

It holds the gear, downshifts very crisp and fast with low throttle inputs, it keeps the car ready to go at all times. Much better than tip mode.

The thing I find about tip mode is the shifts are not as quick as D or S, you have to think ahead of the game, where the TCU seems faster when in D or S.

Default "much better than Tip mode"? More aptly, much "different" - different applications.

Sport is great for highway, makes the loud pedal VERY lively, engages kickdown with the touch of a c-hair to the pedal, and buries the tach to red and only recluctantly upshifts when you back off.

But therein lies the difference - it'll upshift. NOT what I want happening on me fave backroad. Eeeek! Need to be in Tip to prevent that.

Again, different modes for different applications. It does shift "better" than Tip though you're right - totally zero downshift delay which is nice. Only delay that bothers me in Tip is the 4/3 - I've gotten it down so I can plan accordingly but the delay there is for some reason way more dramatic than other gears. I count "one one-thousand two one-thousand three" in my mind now. 2/1 is nearly as bad. 5/4 and 3/2 are just about "OK". Not saying much is it! 8-)

I'd def. hack it into my '01 tho - dares ya to enginerd a solution! 8-)

Anyone think it's possible to speed up the downshift timing, otherwise? Querious.

To me, it seems to keep the engine "on the cam" at all times, and it also holds each gear to higher revs. Not sure how much higher; things happen much faster, so I have to keep my eyes on the road. It doesn't improve acceleration from a standing start too much, but if you're on the move and drop it into 'S,' well... It's not the Clark Kent gear, it's 'The Other One.'

Did the ECM part number change between 2001 and 2002? If so, hope it's not for TCM compatibility

Default I would say no

The transmission has a few failure modes, one is loosing reverse....it won't change that.

The other is ripping the clutch plate baskets....and the higher the RPM, the lower the torque on these components....it's low RPM's (high torque) that tear these things apart.

So I'm going to say no in all cases.

Default There are different computer modules in the 01 versus the 02 instrument cluster

I've been looking at them for my future mods, and the 02/03 have CAN bus to talk to everything, the 01's don't.....so the control module is a different number.

I am wondering what will happen when I do the CAN bus swap over....
