Don't most of us on the forum have "boys"? Except mine don't have their own car ;-)

Default Re: There are different computer modules in the 01 versus the 02 instrument cluster

The radio, phone/telematics and the steering wheel controls went onto CAN in 2002, so that part of the 2002 instrument cluster is different. But the powertrain components are on a different bus.

The powertrain bus has the same participants in 2001 and 2002: ABS/ESP, ECM, instrument cluster, HVAC, steering angle sensor, TCM. So if the Audi engineers were feeling generous and laid-back, they could have made a 2001 instrument cluster that works perfectly with a 2002 TCM. And the ECM and stability control might likewise be easygoing about, or even oblivious to, a new TCM version on the bus.

But because there might be a liability problem if the stability control can't make the TCM postpone a shift, or because the faster S mode shifts might call for tighter ECM power control during shifts than was needed in 2001, the various modules may be picky about the their busmates' versions. I can't say what DTCs you'll get if you plug a 2002 TCM into a 2001 car. There's a way to find out though...

I would like to try the stock TCU coding from the 2002-2003 S8, can anybody please post it?
