Most folks on this forum love their A8, right, but why? (long)

Re: As long as you want to keep buyin' parts!
Just a thought. With the price of these cars being very competitive with the competition, I would imagine it would be a good idea and possible to set aside some monies for the cars maintenance to help alleviate surprises. These A8L are generally around $75K. An equivalently equipped S500 Benz would be closer to $90K, and the Bimmer, somewhat less. The A8L is functionally superior than the competition IMO. For those who can afford a $90K car, I would suggest they set aside the $10K to $15K that they saved for future upkeep of their A8L. I, on the other hand, am a conservative driver, and given my track record, I probably will see 55K miles pass without much drama. My previous experience with a German Made 2000 VW GTI VR6 yielded great results. Through careful use, I was able to achieve close to 60,000 miles without any major fails whatsoever. But then I traded the car. I am sure it would have done100,000 miles without much problem. Careful use, yes, I carefully warmed it up every time, I carefully rallyed the car offroad, too, but never abused it. I took that GTI cross country on long cruises. I hope the A8L gives similar service...
