Well, I still haven't had the chance to check the fuelling Paul, but someone scanned the fault memory on VagCom today for me. We read the memory, cleared it and I went for a drive on mixed roads and then read the memory again. When the car wont start, a dab on the throttle gets her running. Does this lend weight to the fuel pressure Paul?

take a look at a couple plugs. Just guessing you'll find them fouled. Would suspect improper fuel mix commanded by the computer from vacuum leak, improper signal from one or more o2 sensors or the wiring to them. Again, just guessing.

It occasionally runs lumpy when it didnt want to start. Normally runs fine. I will take out the plugs next week.
I have read that there can be a connection between gear box trouble and a brake switch?
I have been advised to clean the throttle body.
I'm not sure what to do about the Lamda?
Any advice?

... I'd check your O2 sensor connections. The code says they are intermittent? Normally they just go bad, not flip on and off. Maybe a bad connection. Engine Rich/Lean errors can be related to the intermittent O2 sensors.
Also, the Immobilizer code .. that's the 2-second run, then die thing. I'd follow other people's advice, so far, and check your ignition switch assembly for a bad connection!

But if all you need to do is to give it some throttle, it's not the fuel pump. Nothing would start it then.
These are the codes I would be worried about:
