i've been reading up on the forum about people going into limp home mode. Mine just did it yesterday and is doing it on a consistance basis. I drive a 1998 Audi A8. I've talked to alot of people and gotten alot of advice. Changes rear brake pads, thats when everything happened. I would like more advice so here goes:
1.) my tranny seems fine. I can go through all the gears no problem. Seems like the car keeps throwing me into 3rd gear. On a cold start it's a little rough into reverse but i dont think its anything to really worry about.
2.) Codes: 17114-gear ratio montioring:incorrect gear ratio
17125-Torque converter Circ performance or stuck off
17087- Brake switch (F); electrical malfunction.
3.) Plans: i plan to do a tranny service on it this weekend. If anyone can help me find parts for cheap let me know. May have to bite the bullet and pay $300 for the kit and fluids.
Some people have told me that those 3 codes typically dont show up with each other. Seems more like a sensor or programming problem that anything else. I don't remember the name if the sensor, if anyone can tell me that would help. I need as much advice as people can give me. i just bought this car a week ago and don't really have the money for a tranny rebuild.

That is wild and crazy. A member on the C4 forum had his tranny go into limp mode as well after fiddling with the brakes. The man you need is tozoM8 who I'm sure will chime in shortly. That is a bitter pill to swallow after just buying the car! :-(<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a6100/msgs/87796.phtml">Same issue on C4</a></li></ul>

17087 could be nothing. Press the brake before you start the car and it will clear. 17125 could be low fluid level, contaminated fluid, a stuck valve in the valve body or a faulty torque converter. 17114 is a generic code for incorrect gear ratio. Clear all the codes and drive the car again to see what comes back. Buy 8Qt of Mobil 1 ATF a bottle of red LubeGuard. Use audipages for proper filling procedure.
Good luck....you are going to need it!

Thank You everyone who has given suggestions. I guess i'll just do the tranny service and see what happens from there. I'm praying I wont need a tranny rebuild. From what i can tell so far i should be alright with the tranny. Thanks again to everyone. If anyone could think of anything else let me know.
