Good work-around, though. I think PaulW's right about the compressor always being on, except when you press the ECON switch. Then it only kicks in when needed.

I've looked through the complete schematic so many times and never seen a WOT switch input....but I would have to check again to be sure.
I know the 00 and newer cars have a WOT switch right on the floor at the gas pedal.

<center><img src="http://ko1.koonline.ca/ebay/CW-8123-B/104_0422.JPG"></center><p>My monitor folds down for easy access to it.
I had to chop part of my switchplate out for a new modification.
check this out:
I took out the hazard switch and the 3 right switches...
I installed a Laptop slot load DVD drive.
I have no headunit up front, so i needed a way to play cd's and dvd's up front so i dont have to go to the trunk to put into the cd drive..
Now on my JMI "Jack Media Interface"
1. I now have the Onboard VAG COM 100 % operational and dataloging all the time.
2. DVD/CD and CDRW in dash
3. Rear view camera on a license plate mount pinhole camera
4. Bluetooth GPS with integration into my bluetooth phone
5. MP3/ and Avi playback
6. Touchscreen XM with the ability to see whats on 10 different channels simultaneousley
I have the ability to use my USB port to hook up a HUD bridge that will allow me to control up to 5 relays via my touchscreen. I think i am going to use one of those icons to control my A/C and The Hazard switches..
All together the system uses no more then 52 watts of power. I will post pics as soon as i get the dvd comsmetically finished.

I've seen the "button" ( A/C compressor switch off mechanism )at the base of the floor board under the accelerator pedal ) when the accelerator pedal was pushed all the way to the floor it tripped the compressor off for more power..not sure if if exists on the A8 though.

- the evaporator approaches 32 F, or else it can ice over on long drives unless you drive places with only very dry air. (Short drives would do it if the A8 had Camry- or Taurus-grade AC.) A 32 F switch from NAPA can avoid this.
- when the normally closed contact of the high pressure switch F118 (separate from the contact which runs the second fan speed) signals the controller to shut off the compressor due to high pressure.
Also, an '01 controller seems to always run the radiator fan on the first speed when it turns on the compressor, and there is wiring on the 1997 diagram for this. You might want to do your wiring accordingly. If your '00 controller still turns on the low radiator fan speed then shuts it off when you push ECON, you could use that signal, separated by a diode "pointing at" [I think this is backward -- see my next message] the thermoswitch and relay, and wired through a 32 F switch and the normally closed high pressure contact, to run a compressor relay. Then you'd even have ECON control of the compressor.
