Default My S8 to RS6 Journey...Ugh! (kind of long)

Yeah, I know, that is NOT an RS6 -- Well, I set off last week to go pick up the perfect RS6 and guess what -- it was NOT! I lived next door to this car for 3 years and knew it to be in xlnt condition with 28k miles and the owner had it CPOed when it came off lease!!! Well, when he told me he was selling it -- I jumped on it! Then I flew out to get it (we have moved in the past three years) and when I got there, the car looked awsome but when I test drove it, there was a "clunk" in the car -- the owner and I took it to the local dealer and they were able to diagnose that is was the DRC (f'in typical). I left the car (the dealer in Knoxville is not RS6 certified so I did not want to drive it all the way home!). I asked that they fix it and give me a call. I was bummed! However, I figured I would prevail and go back and get he car three days later. Well, long story short, I went back and one of the techs informed me that the whole right side of the car had been replaced -- clean carfax mind you and my "buddy" who I lived next door to for 4 years neglected to tell me he met a ditch about a year ago -- and the ditch won!!! My goodness-- what is wrong with people?! So, long story cut to med -- I had seen a CPO'ed E55 in Nashville a few weeks ago, flew home drove over and picked it up -- done! Sad to be leaving the Audi family after 8 years of almost every Audi available -- I am taking a walk on the wild side!!! Lordy, this E55 pulls like, well, like a car with 469 HP and over 500 ft lb of torque! I mean it is PDQ!!! On another note, I have received much interest in my '01 S8 and look forward to turning him over to a good Audinut!!! I can't walk away from you guys on this board who have been so great so I will at least give you updates from the other side of the fence every once in a while. TTYL and Happy Easter!!!

Default Sweet ride- congratulations! Sorry to hear of your RS6 drama, but you're better off w/o problems.

Please report your E55 driving impressions and compare to your S8 experience. I guess if you don't live in snow country you can sure do w/o the quattro overhead.

Default Congrats on the E55 !

My best friend had an 05 that he later traded for his cls63.

What a car !

I drove it from Albany NY to Ocean City NJ a few years ago and I consider that drive one of the most memorable hi speed blasts I've ever risked.

There really isn't enough road for an AMG in the East Coast.

Couple of things I remember about the car since I was the one that gave him a ride to the dealer to get it serviced.

The front rotors can warp easily if you panic stop hard enough when the brakes are cold. These brakes like to be squeezed...not pinched.

If the car is at 45-50K's change the SC belts even if they look fine. The pulleys will live longer w/ fresh belts at the right tension.

Lots of Plug-N-Play mods for these cars.

Renntech is big bucks but seems to be the standard for AMG w211's.

Cheers.

Default Congrats Ryder - wow what a saga. Prepare yourself for...

...juvenille holeshots and lurid wheelspin 8-). I found it quite addictive.

Yours got the active seats? Had me serpentine'ing down the road just to have them hug me over and over. Pretty silly.

Awestrickening torque huh? And they're tuneable heh heh heh. My bud's ended up side/rear into a pole, careful 8-). Burnouts can bite ya I guess.

Like you said, sad to leave the fold - but the MB fold is a good one, they make some fabulous machines. The 'crowd' unfort. pales in comparison to our universe here, but que sera sera. We're in a very rare and forunate situation here it seems.

Unreal about your 'friend'. People suck.

Enjoy yourself! Kudos and congrats again. Report back with any mods...
