Default Need Bentley info....

Before I even think about doing the cam belt on the A8, I was hoping a lister could Fax or snailmail me the pertinent section for changing this timing belt from a Bentley CD so I could get a feel for how it fits with PaulW's Audipage.com belt change printout. TIA for any help.

Default Why not just get it yourself?

If you own an A8 and you are considering changing the timing belt on your car...you should get it.

What if you get a check engine light after you do the timing belt (like I did) and you don't have the Bently or the ross-tech software, how are you going to troubleshoot the problem?

It has all the fault codes....and just loads and loads of information. For $75, it's really cheap.

When I got my check engine light, it showed that the O2 sensor was unplugged, which you do when doing the belt....just wasn't plugged all the way back in and worked itself loose. Took me longer to pull the code and look it up in the Bently, then it did to actually correct the problem because it told me exactly where to go.

Paul-

I am going to get the ross-tech sw this weekend. It looks like the package is $199, does this sound right?

Thanks,

Default Sounds right

I would probably go with the little more expensive package with the hex com cable, don't have to register the software and can use it on any computer that has downloaded the free software.

The cheaper cables can only be used on one computer.

I'm going to upgrade mine soon.

Default Is the free version worth anything?

I am not sure, from my experience it is better to spend the money and get it all. Did you notice if the hex com cable is in the $199 pkg? I did not see that on their website.

Thanks

Default It's the same software.....

....if you get the hex com cable, it acts as a "dongle" and activates all the features of the software.

If you do not buy a hex com cable, you have to email them for a registration number....and then put that into your PC, it's the only one that will work with that number.

It's the same software either way, it's just the way you unlock all of its features.
