I guess one could just disconnect the tie rod ends and do the same slight-left-then-right test, but that would incur the cost of another alignment.

The thing on the right all the way at the top of the strut? I know the nuts that hold the studs in are tight, checked that too.
Or are you referring to something else?

I had the same noise for a while too. In the end I could feel the movement if I hit the brakes while moving very slow, at that point it was a little scary to drive.

My mechanic testetd the car on the road and told
me that i needed 2 parts , "STY 50284" and "STY 50235".
I don't know if you have the same part numbers in the US.
That to care of my CLunk.
