Car in limp mode:
Control Module Part Number: 4D0 927 156 BH
Component and/or Version: AG5 01L 4.2l4V RdW 1313
Software Coding: 00011
Work Shop Code: WSC 00000
1 Faults Found:
17114 - Incorrect Gear Ratio
P0730 - 35-00 - -
I think front clutches are slipping - car is shaking in drive.
Car has 189K on it. I did change fluid, filter at 136K. I would like to keep the car so I am thinking of rebuilding or buying ZF rebuild unit.
I am in PGH, PA. I did get a quote from a local shop for complete job - $3500. I can get ZF rebuled unit for $2600 with fluid in and 12 months/unlimited miles warranty.
Could someone tell me how much time it takes to rebuild from Master Kit, how much time it takes to drop it and reinstall. What should be fair price if I get rebuild unit and get a shop to put it in? Is it a good idea to split rebuild an install work?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

No, no $3500 is a local shop price for rebuild in install. $2600 is for ZF rebuild price and I have to put it in.

Master kit I believe is $800 + $200 for VB kit + I think around $150 for TC kit. The rest is a labour. And there is a lot of it! I removed my transmission myself (14 hr) on a garage floor and I was drinking beers and reading tozo's instructions half of that time. Its going back a lot faster. With the lift + proper tools + knowing what you doing = 4 hours to remove & 3-4 hours to install.
One guy quoted me $400 CDN for all together, I told him his crazy.

R & R is around $600-1000 and if anything wrong with the tranny, you will have a problem to make ZF to pay for the second R & R.
The rebuild kit is around $450-500 + rebuilt torque converter $150-200 + clutch F seal $50 and possibly a clutch A housing $150.
Good luck!
