Default Mine has lights inside of the armrest

I don't know if they all do, but I got one out of a US car. If you look inside the armrest, there are two small tabs on the driver's side wall of each....they house two small red lights (actually think they are LED's or something, they are connected in series).

Have them hooked up to light power from the rear seat heater switches....when I turn on the headlights I have cool red light in the armrest!

Default Light hookup instructions and MP3 wiring suggestions?

PaulW, can you explain in detail how you hooked up the lights? I'm not extremely savvy with the electronics. I also just received my armrests that I ordered on German Ebay. Got a killer deal... 99 euros for Ecru armrests. Unfortunately, there is some wear under the previous owner's heavy elbow. i'm waiting for the grommet from the dealer that was not included with the shipment. I was able to pull the leather off that section pretty easily for some serious reconditioning with less than satisfactory results. I am tempted to get it reupholstered, but not sure how well the color will get matched and think it might not be worth the expense.

I also want to power my mp3 player, and have been trying to think of a way to do it without the bulky cigarette lighter attachment. I have read through your audipages instructions. However, the jackass before me got rid of the CD player and I can't wire the mp3 player the way you described. I've settled for a powerful FM transmitter from a company I found in Ohio that designs mounts for PDAs. The transmitter is really powerful and tunable. The piece of s%$t Belkin and similar transmitters are horrible for city dwellers like myself, because you're stuck with only a few choices of possible radio stations (most of which have strong signals already on them). This one works on any frequency where there is no strong radio signal. The really cool thing is that the unit has a power jack for the mp3 player (sorry, not compatible with ipod), and a mount (with optional adapter for drink cup, vent mount, or tape). The kicker is that the whole thing can be powered with one cord to the cigarette lighter.

Ideally, I'd like to run a wire through the armrest and hook the adapter up to some electrical source from the console or somewhere else convienient. I just don't know how to do any wiring. I'd like to get some help in terms of hooking up the cord with the cigarette lighter attachment to some internal power source, so the ugly coiled wire doesn't have to be seen.

Also, I'm planning on fixing the unit to the pop-up phone mount. that way the unit will be accessible while driving, and can easily tuck away when parked.

Let me know your thoughts on this. Thanks.

Glen

Default Here's one way

If you want to get unswitched power to the console....you could do it many ways, but an easy way to do it is to use the factory phone wiring harness.

There is a DB-25 connector in the trunk, shown here with a jumper male connector attached:

<img src="http://www.audipages.com/upgrades/v6011.JPG">

From the diagram below, you can see that pin 16 and pin 3 is unswtiched 12 volts and ground.

<img src="http://www.audipages.com/upgrades/V60wire1sm.JPG">

I would buy a male DB-25 connector and just place a jumper between pin 3 and pin 24 and 16 to 18 as shown in the <a href="http://www.audipages.com/upgrades/v60install.html">V60 hands free installation procedure</a>.

This will bring power and ground to the 8 pin phone connector under the center console. Take the carpet out and attach a RJ-45 (network cable) cable to it. Then strip back the wires on the RJ-45 cable and expose the wires at terminals 4 and 5 on the RJ-45.

<img src="http://www.audipages.com/upgrades/v6010.JPG">

Then disassemble the cigarette portion of the power supply and connect those two wires to the incoming red and black wires....tape it all up and stick it under the console.

Something like this will work. If you don't feel comfortable with this, ask a stereo shop to do it for you.

Default Re: Here's one way

Thanks. I'll give it a shot. I'll also be sure to take some photos if I end up getting the MP3 player mounted up to way I envision into the armrest. Still waiting for the grommet and bolt. I'm really looking forward to being able to rest my elbow for a change and not have it hang across to the passenger seat. I ended up signing up for a three year service contract today (bumper to bumper) through AAA. Got in at 59,973 miles... 27 miles before the cost nearly doubles.

Default Re: not sure how well the color will get matched

I had talked with an automotive/aircraft/fine furniture leather shop, and they didn't seem to think color matching was any issue at all. They could even get the real Audi-colored leather.

This place was re-doing a mid-90's Rolls that had been vandalized, was covering pilots seats for a corporate jet, among other more mundane work.
