Default new to forum:01 S8. need advice

hi. recently purchased an 01 S8. i would like to start getting some enhancements to boost my HP. I'm afraid of doing anything to void warranty (lasts until 11/07), but I am not even sure what is available or where to look. Possibly chip replacement? cold-air induction? new exhaust? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Default Not much, really.

Search the archives. There's a chip (by GIAC) that gives a small HP gain (and one for the TCU), but it's questionable if you'd notice the gain. Most likely you stand to improve the responsiveness of the car more through a cat-back exhaust and a reworked air-filter combo.

Default You already have a cold air intake.

Note the large air inlet, upper left of the radiator.

You might get 10-15 hp from a chip, but your best bet is a custom exhaust. Swen's Exhaust resulted in a 292 g/sec MAF compared to 253 g/sec from my stock S8. That would be a borderline unbelievable 415 hp. Last but not least, you can always do the 26hp Oil Change :-)

Default do it on a dyno - before and after

and then let us know, ok?

otherwise you have no idea whether the mods actually provide benefit beyond the placebo effect.

Default Randy- have you upgraded your exhaust to the X-pipe?

415 hp is a nice increase over stock, but I wonder if the sound is too intrusive? I would also think you could feel the extra 55 ponies.

Warning: the Thunder God is an angry god. Wimpy laptop speakers need not apply. You need good bass reproduction to appreciate this.

All Praise Sven_S8 .. click here to bow before the thunder god.

Default Thanks to MarkP and his Audi events ...

... I've found three places locally that will toss your car on their dyno if you show up. What I've learned while at these shops is that dyno readings from machine to machine and DAY TO DAY are different.

The only way to "compare" dyno sheets is if you are able to quickly change settings or equipment on your car, and then run again to attempt using similar atmospheric conditions on all dyno pulls.
