Default New here...please help

Recently, I've been thinking about purchasing an A8. I need quite a bit of help from you guys if that's okay. My price range is up to the mid teens, like 15K. I've seen several 97 models on ebay for this price. Most of which of course have high mileage, over 100K. My questions are as follows: 1) How reliable are these engines? I know the old adage (take care of it and it will take care of you) is true with any vehicle you purchase, but would I be stretching if I bought an A8 with 100K plus miles? How many more miles may I expect from it? 2) What kind of routine maintenance should I expect to endure? If you had to calculate annual spending, what would it be? 1K, 2K, etc...3) Insurance...anyone care to share how much they are spending for full coverage? Finally, anything else that may help me understand these vehicles would be great. I really think these are awesome cars but I want to make sure I can afford not only to purchase, but sustain an A8 for a while.

Thanks in advance for all the help!

An insurance website like Progressive.com and others will quote you insurance online.

Default pay $660 w/ USAA and $1k coll dedutible

There have been some pretty good long writeups as far as a buying guide. As these cars get old condition and preventative TLC make a big difference.

Thanks for all the replies! What about general reliability? Can anyone comment on that?

Default $950 / 6 months to USAA with a $500 deductible all around and one claim 2 years ago, no tickets ...

I am 25 and single so that raises it some. Other than that, haven't really had it long enough to get a solid idea how much mine will cost a year. So far all I have had to do to it is rebuild the alternator for $175 plus labor to install (instead of 850 plus labor for a new one). But it is a great car to drive even though it costs more to maintain.

It has been mentioned before, but you forget about all the costs when you drive the thing.
