I have a 2000 A8Q and I would like to get a new key fob for my wife so she can use the car. What is the best way to get one, dealer? ebay? and how do you code it.

but let us be clear .. you need a key and a remote "fob". The dealer has to cut you the key, but the remote portion can be eBay'd. It's up to you, wether you want to simply tell the dealer to get you both, at the same time. They'll need the VIN to cut the correct pattern.
If you get the stuff from the dealer, they will (SHOULD) enable the key and remote for you, gratis, while you are there.

IMHO. You can indeed 'learn' your keys via the procedure in the owners manual, after a battery replacement f.i. However, that is for keys previously matched to the car. New keys on the other hand need to be matched with SKC. You need to get that from the dealer, who can look this up with the VIN.

So you might as well get a fob there too.
You have to bring ALL your keys to the dealer, because when you add one or more to a 2000 or newer, the car emobilizer and ECU has to be programmed with them.
Only the dealer has the codes, period.
