Hi,
I haven't been here in a couple of years, since I sold my '97 A4.
I've been driving an '02 MINI Cooper S, and as soon as I sell it, I'm buying a 1999 A8 with only 48,000 moles on it.
Despite searching the archives, I've been unable to find information on things to be aware of, or on the look-out for, in making the final decision.
Could someone kindly point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance, and it's good to be back.

Thank you very much for this information!
It's exactly what I was looking for.
And thanks for the prompt reply.

10 years is considerable age, be cautious about waiting too long on such an investment. Is the car priced around $10k or so?
Do a tranny flush to be on the safe side IMO. My 99 tranny died at 108k after a VW/Audi shop in Walpole MA did an amateurish flush without a proper reseal at 65k. A slight leak doomed it IMO...

The age of the belt is nearly ten years old, even though it has very few miles, the rubber is under the hood which is exposed to temperature differences as well as use. It's better to be on the safe side and have a belt that is considerably old changed. I have had a timing belt break before and the car never ran the same.

Run the opposite direction!!! Everyone with a pre-facelift is searching for the magic bullet to cure their tranny troubles (there isn't one)...doesn't that tell you something. Its not "if" it's "when". Add $6K to the price you are thinking of paying and then decide if it's worht it for the much less desireable pre- facelift A8.
