Default New Options for '04 A8L?

Check the link on MSN Autos... it you choose to "Price it with options"... scroll down and you will see the following options:

- Adaptive Cruise Control (Mfr Code #CC)
(Late Availability)

- Multi-Function Steering Wheel (Mfr Code #SW) Steering Wheel Mounted Controls For Tiptronic(R) Transmission
(Late Availability)

- Voice Recognition (Mfr Code #VR)
(Late Availability)

Does anyone know anything about these? I ordered a car and these weren't available to me as options... can they be added later (like voice recognition)?

These options ahve been listed on MSN since the first day the car went on sale. I suspect they pulled the list from an early marketing piece or from the Euro web site, as I've been told that voice recognition and the multi-function steering wheel are not coming to the '04, and may possibly only be available on the S8 when sold in 05 or 06. The adaptive cruise option is slated for cars built in week 44 or later, which means approx December builds.

Forget about the adaptive cruise control. I have it on my Infiniti FX45, and it's a blithering mess. It slows the car down when it shouldn't, and often accelerates into the rear of a car ahead, which it shouldn't. Sometimes it fails to detect that a car ahead has changed lanes. As bad as all of this sounds, it's much worse during rainstorms. For my nerves, and for the sake of my insurance policy, I've stopped using it.

Yes, these options don't really seem that useful/practical. I was looking at the voice recognition... yet even that has spotty success on other luxury cars.

My user manual describes in precise Teutonic detail the Steering wheel controls for Tiptronic.

Default Re: Adaptive Cruise Control now available

SeattleJames, The adaptive cruise control is now available on any A8L ordered in Canada, as of 2 weeks ago. I wish I had seen this post when I was at the dealership on Thursday. I'll re-post when I have more information on the rest of the options.

Default I've used the audi's

ACC and it works perfect. I believe the FX uses a laser and not rader, where the A8L uses radar and not laser. I've used it in heavy trafic and it did exactly what it should have done!
