Yesterday I purchased a black on black S8 with 97k on the clock site unseen, without available service history. This is something I have never done but I just could not resist the deal. I am currently driving a 1991 200 avant that is RS2 modified with 252K and all the constant maintenance is starting to wear on me so I have been looking for a new ride. From what I have gathered timing belt and transmission service are the two most critical immediate concerns. Are there any other issues I should be aware of? Got my fingers crossed on this one.
Thanks

I would do a few things:
1. Go to your nearest Audi dealer and have them pull the service history. They will have some stuff, even if only during the warranty period. But if you're willing to play a little "detective", you'll probably get even more from the post-warranty servicing dealer, assuming it went to a dealer after warranty expiration, by calling and asking nicely.
2. Schedule a pre-purchase inspection at your local Audi dealer. Yes, I know you already bought it, but pretend you didn't and have them find all the mechanical problems, leaks, things needing attention like brake pads, etc. etc. At least then you know exactly what you have on your hands.
3. If you can not verify timing belt job, schedule that too. But you may want to do it at an independent Audi-specialist shop as opposed to the dealer.....you'll save some bucks.
4. Consider getting an extended warranty. What's that you say? Who should you get one from? Why, me of course! Seriously, though, it'll probably be a good investment, and a bunch of us on here have them (I sell them and arrange group buys). Email me if you want more info.
5. Enjoy the hell out of the car, they're awesome!

Thanks for the feedback. I am planning on doing all the above. Brave is a very kind word, many others come to mind; foolish, impetuous, masochistic ( by definition: (deriving pleasure or sexual gratification from being abused or dominated) this is very much a description of my infatuation with Audi cars. The car has been described to me to be in remarkable condition, if it is anywhere close to this I will be estatic.
