In spite of the 12.5:1 compression ratio possible because of FSI's (direct fuel injection) stratified charge, the specific output of the new V10 is almost identical to the old S8's V8.
D2 S8: 360hp @ 7000 rpm from 4.2L = 0.86 hp/L
D3 S8: 450hp @ 7000 rpm from 5.2L = 0.87 hp/L
I would have expected at least +15% or 510hp from five years of evolution that included a much higher CR (<i>only</i> 11:1 in the D2) and FSI. I know ... nag nag nag.
