Default a new tranny problem?

when i first start up, i dont have reverse. just revs. if i drive around the block, i'm good. almost as if i need to build up pressure or something. very strange. i now back in to all spots and the garage as a rule.

she's a 2000 that just hit 83k miles. did my first trans oil/filter change maybe 25k miles ago. also replaced the flange seal, which was leaking. otherwise, drives beautifully. any ideas?

x3 ... fluid level or almost-gone F seal. Hope it's your fluid. F seal needs a complete disassembly.

I have an A8 which just hit 108K from 2000.

God please no tranny issues. There is fluid leaking...i think it is gear fluid? on top of the left catalyic converter...it gives off a burning smell when i drive to NJ or Boston.

Can i wait around spring time to fix it? or is that a dangerous thing to wait?

Default I wouldn't wait too long. Thats the output flange seal. These trans are finicky with fluid levels.

If it only leaks (burnt oily smell) when driving to NJ or Boston... don't drive there! Sorry, couldn't help it. Probably your trans output seal, a pain in the rear to change, but not horrible or expensive if you do it yourself.

That's gear lube, not trans fluid, on that leak.

Default Jim is right-- gear lube

I had an indy do it last year for about $200 including the seal. It took 2 hours in a shop that works fast and affordably near Chicago, IL
