Default You're welcome....picutres inside, updated audipages procedure

First off, that's the first thing I've updated in ages!

Secondly, Tony is a mortgage broker and gave me an AWESOME deal on my last mortgage, need to keep him happy! ;-)

I updated the procedure for unclogging the evaporator drains with the procedure and pictures.....here are the highlights....

---------------start--------------

Checking the Cowl Drains
If this drain is not open, the cowl area under the black cabin air intake box with fill with water and can flood the ECU/TCU/electronics box.

You can't actually see the drain, but with some luck and a piece of 1/4" flexible copper pipe, you can open it.

You will need:

-Air compressor with air nozzle on hose
-Flashlight
-1/4" flexible copper tubing
-Water

The cowl drain is somewhere below the black cabin air intake box. TozoM8 has taken a picture of it with his transmission removed, it's a center drain that has two branches on either side of the transmission housing.

Bend the copper tubing as shown, it must snake in from behind the black cabin air box to approximately center forward.

Using about 1/2 gallon of water, fill the cowl drains by carefully pouring it in the cowl area. Next to the shock tower is easy enough. Get 1"-2" of standing water in there. This will provide a liquid seal for the air to push against.

Once there is standing water, blow compressed air into the copper pipe and it will bubble like a straw. You'll know when you got it close enough, water will start draining all over the floor below the car. It should take about 1-2 minutes to completely drain cowl area once they are open.

Fill it with water again and repeat the process if it doesn't drain quickly, you are basically passing all the leaves and other organic materials through the drain.

Default Actually I removed the pinch-vents at the end of the center drain tubes. Look

at tonypai's pictures. The center drain has a larger version(2) of the small pinch-drains found in the R & L wheelwells. They're really hard to reach back towards the transmission. The center drain which forks right and left, has a pinch valve on each side that comes off.

Default I am glad, that you've used my car's picture, not mine.

We don't want to scare anyone off of audipages.

Paul,
Do you have a front shock replacement how-to for a 2000 A8L?
