All,
I am wrestling with purchasing a '01 or '02 D2 as a daily driver. I am by NO means a DIY-er, and was wondering what type of advise you folks can offer to the following questions:
1) Should I purchase an extended warranty, or should I rely on the local (Central Jersey)Indy shops recommended within this Forum when something goes wrong?
2) Have any of you used a dealer to purchase a car for you at the Mainheim auction?
3) Are any of you looking to sell your vehicles in the near future?
Thanks so much for your feedback. I am really looking forward to joining the exclusive club of A8 owners!

1. Extended warranties are a great idea (especially being a non-DIYer...and with the cost of parts and labor on these cars). This way you can use the dealer and not have to fret over the rediculous costs.
2. Ive used a dealer many times thru manheim...my father IS a dealer. Trick to manheim...know what you want and get there early to find the cars you are looking for then just watch the screens to find out when your cars are coming up to the block. Also, you must come with check in hand...unless you've worked out something with the dealer you are going with. Also, there are added fees on top of that so be aware that if you bring $16000, you can only bid up to maybe $15500 or so due to taxes, dealer fees, auction fee, etc. The only downside to buying from manheim is that you dont know where the car came from or its history. unless you have wireless and a carfax acct. on you, there is no way to tell how the car has been maintained (now they will divulge flood, salvage, etc titles) but you just have to trust that the cars are fine. There is a VERY tough return process with Manheim...once you get the car, you're stuck with it.
3. PaulW on this board...just a little scroll down is selling his A8. It is probably the best specimen (besides DanMcBoost's IMO) out there and definitely the craziest mods. Its also one of the best cared for cars on this board.
Anyway, good luck in your search, and if you want to go to manheim, drop me an email.

They were mounted on the car w/ the chrome "pie plates" when i first picked up the car....
I did/do not like the the look of the chrome rims (and winter was fast approaching),so i mounted the all season tires and polished rims that also came w/ the car.
So i really did not have enough time w/ the Falken's to evaluate them.(the all season tires and polished rims are still on the car,i did not mount the Falken's this summer).

Thank you so very much for your feedback! My response:
1)As a former leasee of a '00 2.7T manual (Princeton Audi), I would feel much more comfortable with an extended warranty. I'm glad to hear that you concur. I combed the forum awhile back, but I'll look again for some suggestions of good, quality firms
2)Manheim sounds like a good option for me.I understand the risk, but it sounds like the risk/ benefit ratio is in my favor. Do you agree?
3)Paul W's car is very tempting indeed. Last post I saw, I think he was asking ~$9,000. It appears that he is an audiworld guru, so I'm sure that his car is close-to-pristine. The rate limiting factor will be convincing my wife that we need to buy a 10 year old car!

Thanks for your feedback, mwc1. Sounds like it may be worth investigating. I am in Central Jersey, so I'm not too far. Whom did you use for servicing, a dealer or an Indie?
