Default O.K. I'll try this again - any opinions on a 97 A8 for $2900...

I don't know too much about the car. It has no records or history. Has 135K miles. Seems to run and drive O.K. have not been able to drive it enough to tell if tranny hunts or shifts funy. Car is very clean but does have a small dent on rear fender.

Any thoughts? I am thinking if the tranny goes then I am looking at $3k (I think) and then the dent is still there so I would have abuot $6k into it and still have a dent. Seems like most 97 A8s are going to $4K to $5K on Ebay.

Default $2900?!

Wow that's cheap! Pull a CarFax on that thing though, seems too good to be true. If you're not mechanically savvy, get an inspection as well. If everything pans out, that will be the deal of the century! :-)

Default I would go for a facelift A8 or S8

Spend the extra money for a 2000, it will probably pay you back just in immediate maintenance costs over the first 2 years.

Default Is it a throw-away?

it looks as if you have plenty of cars, so what would you do with it? if you just drove it till it blew, that's one thing. by the time you titled, inspected, insured it you would probably have $4K in it. its just a dice throw.

if you plan to keep fixing it, that's another thing entirely.

perhaps it had trans work already. can you check? also check t-belt status

Are the tires good?
