Hello. I've been lurking here for a while, trying to learn all that I can about A8s and I ended up talking myself into an S8. If all goes well, I'll be picking up my new used car from Bruce on Friday.
I plan to drive it from Philadelphia back to Minneapolis. I'm wondering if there is anything in particular I should look over before embarking on such a long trip? I plan to check the fluids and tires of course, but is there a common fault to worry about?
Also, does using the tiptronic feature have any effect on the longevity of the transmission in a 2001 S8? It seems like there is a debate as to whether or not to change the fluid and filter as preventative maintenance. Is there a consensus on this?
Thanks!

Did you get the green on black one? Congrats BTW and welcome and by all means give us a report after the drive back to Minneapolis.

...among all intelligent, God-fearing, America-loving, apple pie-eating non-Communists that a big pile of hot whirling metal attached to a 360hp engine should get a fresh drink every 20-30K or so. Anyone who says otherwise is a member of Al Qaeda and if you listen to them, well, the terrorists have won.
See Audipages for thorough inspection checklist. I've been here several years and I've never heard of Bruce being sued or having plastic surgery to change his identity, so you're probably safe there. Tell him you belong to Al Qaeda and no doubt he'll go over the car with a fine-tooth comb before you arrive.
I doubt there's any scientifically reliable sample on Tip use and longevity. It's fun to use it, though. And life is supposed to be fun. Those dudes in Al Qaeda -- so grouchy, so damn touchy, always blowing up people just out shopping for watermelon on a hot day? No appreciation for chicks, cars, fun. I rest my case.

Yep, that's the one.
I don't think he would either- he seems very knowledgeable and helpful and I couldn't find one bad post about him, but it's always possible that he or I could have forgotten something.
He's had his mechanic go through it and it's got a clean bill of health which is reassuring, but I suppose there are things that might not show up on shorter tests.
I guess I'm just a little nervous trusting a man I've never met to put me in a car I've never seen and driving it 1100+ miles. I think I've been as diligent as I can and it's time to "press my luck" and take a chance.
No Whammies!

I often stay in 4th for performance, for example, rather than loafing along in 5th. To the extent that there's less gear changes in Tip, I'd assume longevity improves.

At least 2 black, 2 white, 1 silver and now 1 green. Way to go Mpls!!! Not bad for less than 1 million population and probably more that I don't know about. Enjoy, they are a BLAST!
