Default oil changes, where do you usually go?

i wanted to get a little feedback on how people on this board handle oil changes. dealer? quick lube? diy?

i have a change coming up, and on my other cars, i go to the quick lube. wondering if that is a safe option for my 97 A8.

Default My garage. I would NOT NOT NOT under any circumstances take an A8/S8 to....

any of the quick lube places (Grease Monkey, QuickLube, etc.) First I doubt that they would have the correct filter, and second I can almost guarantee they wouldn't put the belly pan back on correctly/completely. Get a set of Rhino Ramps and DIY, that way it gets done correctly. If you aren't a DIY type, find an independent Audi repair shop to do it for you, or if you are really wealthy take it to the dealer.

Speaking of oil changes.....

1. How often do people recommend you change?
2. What brand of oil is best with the 40V engine?

Default I used to say no to oil change shops

Until I bought my A8 and started an addition that is not complete after 2.5 years, I had never taken any car in for service. Now, I buy the filters on-line and go to Goodyear next to work. I change oil every 3k/3 months per warranty requirements, and they change it for $14-17. I have been happy.

Default Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid.

Subaru guys had trouble with Jiffy Lube many years ago, and here's how it went: Working from underneath the car, they would see three drain plugs as opposed to the two usually seen. On several occasions (in different parts of the country), they would drain the front diff and overfill the engine. You drive off and the front diff detonates a few blocks away.

Scared me from taking the SVX to any such outfit, and would definitely not take an 8. It is best to DIY or take it to an Indy shop.

Default 36 mm socket

What do I need this for on a 40V but not on a 32v?

Default 2nd that...I used to work at a Grease Monkey when I was in high school

back in the day. Saw a lot of shananigans there. On the plus side, I learned how to drive stick on other peoples' cars. Good times.
