Oil dip stick length
I have just bought a 1998 A8 3.7 but it has not got an oil dip stick. Can someone check to see the length and let me know. I have a dip stick for a VW golf 1997 VR6 that might be the same length.

Not sure if this will help, because it is NOT a definite thing.
Your motor should have dipstick 077 115 607 E.
My *year* ('01 4.2) used that same stick #, but changed mid-year to 077 115 607 F...I have no idea what the difference is in those, but mine has the "F" stick.
It measures 502 mm (19.76 inches) from bottom of handle (top of dipstick tube) to the full end of "shaded" area on the dipstick.
