Default Oil leak

I seem to have developed some type of small oil leak located on the passenger side of the engine.

I've had some major service done in the last few weeks, that included the plastic coolent pipe for the oil cooler.

Back to the dreaded dealer, any ideas

Default Since the belly pan catches all drips, it's impossible to tell from the location.

My guess is valve covers. These are famous for leaking, like the front prop shaft, and rear differential seal.

Default Rear cam cover seal, valve cover gaskets are common. Did the stealer replace the figure....

"8" oil seal that seals the oil cooler oil passages when he fixed the water pipe? Was it reassembled correctly? I would have them check for leaks there first.

Default Could be the oil cooler

Once the belly pan is off, if it's at the bottom right of the motor, it's the oil cooler.

So you didn't have any leaks before, but had the oil cooler plastic pipe replaced...and now it leaks? I would be looking there first.

Default Re: Oil leak

Your oil pressure sending unit is on that side, and a very common part to go bad.

Default Re: My oil sender started leaking on my A8 a few months ago.

A few months ago I had an oil leak on the front passenger side of my '98 A8. It was the oil sending unit and it only cost about $8.00 and took a couple of minutes to change. fixed the oil leak.

I bought my '98 in '02. Soon after I got it the sending unit began to leak - the leak was very small, but it was there. The dealer said this was a frequent occurrence. They replaced the unit, and the new one they put in was leaking - really badly this time. They towed the car back to the shop, put in a third unit and returned the car to me - all at their expense, and I haven't had a problem since.
