Oil leak? Sanitary towel solution!!
Ok so this idea perhaps is in the same vein as what some back street mechanics do in Cuba - making brake fluid out of shampoo but just hear me out.
My old D2 99 is still running - ok she needs some tie rods but otherwise she is still rocking it. My biggest annoyance is the oil leak when parking on concrete driveways, a little puddle / few spots - not a raging torrent - been around for the past few year - don't even thing about getting me to get it fixed - the car is probably worth $2k tops - it's not a huge amount of oil but probably need to add a quart ever 1000miles. I can hose off the engine and it comes back after about a month - obviously winter will be better. But I have come up with a better plan My plan now is to literally drive this car till it dies - tranny is still ok but timing belts are due at 210k and I don't plan to replace them but back to my problem.
So ..... how about lining the plastic under engine tray with some fiberglass matting like a massive sanitary towel and just throwing it out ever oil change. Obviously I don't want to create a fire hazard but I see the same idea on my subaru, a small patch of what looks like fiberglass matting below the oil filter.

I believe I have cam seals leaking. PS side worst, bottom of the head, front corner. Drips on the alternator/oil filter housing. I also notice oil all over the screws on the rear of the oil pan and that makes me think it's the crank seal.
Few hours? I've never torn the front of one of these off. I'm not scared to, and can rent the cam and other tools from a guy I know. I just don't wanna screw up the timing.
Suggestions?
