Default Oil/Service Light Reset Tool

Hey gang,

I have a '99 A8. I've considered purchasing the VAG-COM software to do a little tweaking, but since I am primarily just a fluid and filter "shade tree mechanic" I haven't decided if my return on the product justifies the cost.

A specific need I have would be to reset the oil/service reminders. I have seen dedicated tools for that on ebay for about $30. Anyone have experience with these "limited" tools? Other suggestions on a cheap tool/method to reset those reminders?

Thanks in advance!!
Mark

Default try the.....

maxscan 405, i got it on ebay for 70 bucks. it shut off my airbag light and it also does the ABS light. its super easy to use, i dont know anything about cars either. if the car dies and the gas gauge doesnt say "empty" im screwed.

Default i like it....

beacause im new at this whole thing and learning. the audi dealer wanted 100 bucks just to give me the airbag code. the maxscan 405 tells you the code and the name of the part or area thats throwing the code. its super easy to use also.
most of the guys use a better one called a ross tech, but this one ill keep using until i need to upgrade. ive seen the ross tech on FEEbay for 175. hope this helps, karl

Default Don't need a tool, just your fingers.

Thankfully, at least this is an easy fix.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/143415.phtml">Service Interval Reset</a></li></ul>

Default This one works

Just need a laptop running XP to use it with the free vag com software. I can't remember if you can recode with the free version though...<ul><li><a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/USB-Cable-KKL-409-1-VW-AUDI-OBD2-OBD-OBDII-VAG-COM-409_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1171Q7c66Q3a2 Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3 a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem 2
