OK...so the 03 S8 thats at CarMax for 24k has had some work done....
drivers side rear quarter panel painted. front bumper has been replaced. pass side front wheel has been painted (with mf'ing silver overspray on the calipers!!)...interior was OK not great by any means..i think my 97 interior is in better shape...DAMNIT I just wasted $450 having it transferred too...fvck!

Really lame on their stance esp. considering the issues found.
I'd walk away even if they budged - would have to be a ragingly screamin' deal to swallow that stuff. I mean paintwork doesn't necessarily sway me anymore - long as it's done right.
I've learned more often than not cars have had paint work, esp. higher line cars as these as owners fix blemishes, etc. But all too often it ain't done right or even close. My driver side's been done, and if I didn't point it out no one would be any the wiser. Doesn't bother me in the slightest.
Overspray can be rectified, but is indicative of sloppy work elsewhere usually. Panel fit is more frightening. Tattered interior? Errrr...
I'll def. keep an ear to the ground for you.
In the meantime put some miles on your 912 to forget about your $$$ lost 8-)...

I visited a few Carmax stores during my search and found that the cars they have are very, very clean for the most part.
They are priced at about 10-15% over what I would want to pay. In the end, I bought my car for $400 more than the same exact S8 at a Carmax down the road. The one I got was black, the one that Carmax had was ming blue. Otherwise, they were the same exact cars. Both incredibly clean.

I see now why these cars disappear and re-appear on carmax.com: I guess they are transferred.
I have been monitoring carmax.com almost every day for the past 3 months and wondered why the S8's dropped off the list and then were relisted: somebody either transferred or bought it and changed their mind. I am still waiting for either a black D2 S8 or a black 2004 D3 A8 to be listed.
