I would guess this is not anomolous to my 2000 Q.
It sounds like a plastic clicking, about 1-second apart, in sets of 3 or so. It happens every 3-10 minutes, as the climate control is cycling between various positions (my surmising, anyway). Any thoughts?
Question #2 - the old V8Q's had all of the headlight juice routed through the stalk switch, which would ultimately fry your switch - usually when you needed it most. The answer was a seperate relay and direct-sourced power. IS this setup also recommended on the 2000 A8Q?

out which one and why. Usually you can find it just by listening. It can come and go depending on what your asking the climate control to do. I think you can monitor these with the computer diag. software. The problem I saw was a design defect as I see it. The motor turns an arm that moves the air door to the desired position. I think the computer runs the motor until it hits the stop, but since the tolerance is too big btween the motor and gear, the motor just continues to run popping against the gear (hence the clicking). I took one apart and looked at it, and I think you could operate it with the cover off, as I remember, to see what I mean. I thought, at the time but didn't try, one might be able to shim the motor closer to the gear and possibly fix it. As always, part from Audi will be priced as unbelievably is possible. About $150 each as I recall. Figure that times eight or so if they all end up going bad. Maybe Audi should price products for people instead of design them.
