Default Opinion on BMW X5?

I need to get my wife out of my S8. She seems to like midsize crossover SUVs. Anybody have any experience good or bad with the BMW X5? She things they are "cute"

Default Nice cars, drive well, ride well, firm and sporty. Very small inside for size/weight.

If you need one, I can get a great one for you. They're plentiful at auction.

Default Just got my wife an 07 ML350

It's a really nice car/truck, I haven't driven it much, but I really liked it. 39K miles, 10K left on the factory warranty, bluetooth, Nav, etc., $25.4K, it's in absolutely perfect condition.

Default They were the worst vehicle ever tested for rear-end collisions...

my friend has one and she got rear-ended and has suffered major neck injuries and head trauma. She's not the same person anymore. It was ~20 mph hit, and she had the first generation X5 - not sure if they've made improvements since the poor test results. I was very surprised it was the worst vehicle(SUV?) every tested.

I'm keeping my wife in the D2 for this reason primarily as she commutes in heavy traffic daily.

ML's are great deals. So are Acura MDX's. I got a GL450, really nice, but more money.

Default If "xDrive" is the same across all models, ...

The AWD becomes RWD in reverse.

A friend's house is on curve, and she needs to back her 328ix up her steep uphill driveway to avoid backing into the street when she leaves. If there's any snow on the ground, she can't do it. BMW engineers decided that people wouldn't need AWD in reverse, the car's computer leaves the xDrive system OFF, and the car stays in RWD.

Default Try it on the highway.

My race car neighbors wife had one and found it too skittish on the hwy., probably due to short wheel base. She traded it in on an Acura MDX I believe.
YMMV
