Default Opinions on switching to conventional oil?

My A8 has 135k miles and has run synthetic since day one and runs perfectly with no leaks. My aftermarket warranty requires me to have the oil changed every 4 months or 4000 miles. I put maybe 500 miles a month on it so I am running about 2000 miles between oil changes at the most. Would it be fine for me to switch to conventional or just bite the bullet and keep going synthetic? Did some searching but found nothing concrete on the Audi. Did this on my Landcruiser with no adverse effects but that thing has a tractor engine compared to the Audi.
Thanks and would appreciate any feedback as the next change is due in 2 days.

Default I wouldn't change...

I had the same issue and while it doesn't state it, the 3rd party warranty just needs to make sure the vehicle is maintained. My guy told me synthetic is good at 5k intervals but the critical thing is that service is being performed and records are maintained. My 0.02.

Default What's the validation process?

8 qts of Mobil 1 (or 2 gal. Shell RotellaT syn)cost about $35-45 vs maybe $20 for a good non-syn oil. So the difference is at the most $25/change or $75/yr- if you can do it yourself. Of course, if you have to go to a dealer or "authorized" facility to validate that the change was performed, it's more expensive. At the end of the day, the $100-250/yr incremental cost isn't all that bad. AND, you can probably recoup some of it when you sell your car with the service records. What about the transmission??

Default do have to take it to a shop but I think you guys are right, will not switch

I have to take it to a shop, not the dealer just any shop. I think you guys are right, the const difference is probably worth it in the long run. Transmission was rebuilt before I got it 6 months ago and they dont have any service requirement for the tranny, oil was the only one specified in the contract.

Default bad karma to change, don't mess w/success

The incremental cost of oil is lost in the overall cost of ownership. Those intervals are wastefully short and totally not needed, however.

If it's running fine and not leaking, keep synthetic.
