time for new tires on my 02 that has 225-55-17's Are there any good options to go up a size/down and aspect ratio for a slightly wider tire?

245-50-17 would be same rolling diameter and fit your rims. There's always a small trade off...small, but there. Wider tires on the same rim put more meat on the street, but slow steering response slightly too. The narrower tires on a given rim tend to have slightly quicker steering response, but less overall traction. Wider gives you better braking and acceleration traction...narrower on same rim, quicker response.
There's a limit, of course, to how wide you can go on a given rim before having fitment problems, but reasonable changes are safe and change driving effect according to your tastes and priorities.
