limp my car to a rest stop. I cycled the engine until the temp guage raised up to almost "H", then shut off for awhile. I did that until I could get more G12 in it to favor the coolant to water ratio. It took a good hour, but everything melted through and I had heat once again!

Shame on you.

Did I put more G12 in or fix the problem? Naaa. Only issue I've knock woodrow had weeks back was no heat soon out of my driveway. I noted the needle move upward so impromptu visit to Apu @ da Quickimart to insert a nice bucket 'o tap water (Imagenius I know) and all was good (yeahyeahyeah by the time it corrodes the car will have 200k and will be disposal fodder anyway - and - I did tell you I was PainfullyPolish).
And my unusable linky above brings me to another point. Being the product of Special Education (my Dr. seys I'm im-po-tant), how the F do I post links in me posts, pictures in posts, pics in sigs, etc.
Don't tell me to insert <<<img/src.abc123>>> cause that might as well be in Greek / Arabic. Instructions on AW make me head hurt.
Breakitdown for a brutha (Ignorus Maximus)? Danka. Tho, maybe just maybe you don't wanna create a monster...

Coolant , that is water and antifreeze, can slush up when it gets too cold.
Poor circulation and poor heat transfer results in local overheating. An interesting combination of steam and semi-frozen coolant much like a "slushy". (Baked Alaska, Audi style?)
Fortunately the slush does not expand the way true ice will. The block won't crack with some level of antifreeze protection.

Anyways, my princess of a little Honda roadster got kicked outta the warm garage for this cold spell. The poor ol Audi deserved its nest in there after its great duty during the winter months.

its freaking -7 degrees F out...."F" is for #@$@% cold! not Farenheit. Anyhoo, my car is overheating....I'm absolutely cold (as I assumed heated seats and heater would suffice with my cubicle garb....no it wasnt.
Lets play this by what it looks like from morning commuters....
"on I-77 northbound...man in audi, disabled on side of freeway, warming his hands on the intake manifold with the hood up, with the expansion tank steaming like a locomotive because he was that close to overheating the car!"
