Default pad warning light is on, but my front pads are new and the back look OK?

Today in the rain, my brakepad warning light turned on, I replaced the front pads a few months ago and the back look fine. I looked through the wheel, the outer pads are still good. I don't really want to take off the wheels in the rain to check.
Can the computer malfunctioned and turn on by itself. Can we use the VAG to turn it off?

Thanks,

Default The sensor cable frequently breaks on A8s. It's internal to the cable. You can ...

... either buy a new cable or splice the broken ends back together.

Default You can short out the wires

at the wheel or behind the instrument cluster. I believe audipages has the procedure.

Default Paul, one thing worth adding to the procedure is to take apart the red connector

to identify pin #25. The last two I did (both '98's) had two brown/blk wires.

I couldn't tell them apart but you can see the beginning/ending #'s on the connector to figure it out.

Default sometimes the cable breaks right at the sensor and can't be spliced...

my indy shop then replaced my sensor with one that had a good cable from a pad he had lying around from a brake job on a Porche. I won't ever get a notice when that pad is bad, but now the light stays off and it was easier than pulling the dash to short any wires

Corrosion in the socket can also do it, for which cleaning and greasing is the fix

Default Came out after work, the warning light was gone.... INTERMITTENT... Thanks guys!!!

I'll check out the cable when the weather is nice and dry, it's been horrid with rain and storm in the last few weeks. If the system works well, I don't really want to short out the cable.

Thanks again,

Default Re: You can short out the wires

I have tried to short out the wires just on the other side of the wheel well, but to no success, how far back on the cables should one go? I have also heard that the Audi dealers have equipment to take that signal out. IS that true?
