Greenie, I have been awfully busy and missed your posts on the battery draw. I can't seem to reference it.
We have had -35 to -58 degree temperatures here for 3 weeks straight. At one point, the battery charge was below 50% and the car did not start until I trickle charged it to 85%. Since then, it has stayed at 60 - 80% charge. I am taking the car in on Friday to check the battery/charging status.
Did your battery problems occur at extremely cold temperatures?

Same symptoms, exactly. I am aware of the limits of available battery and charging system, but the complexity of the electronics in the A8L is becoming scary. I guess we are back to the issue of heavy electronics 'at the edge' eh?

The last time I had even seen it was at delivery and naturally it was 100%. My car has pulled a fault code with the "Energiemanager" under "Battery regulation". My guess is that the PMU is faulty. Mention that to your dealer and see if he agrees or rolls on the ground laughing!

Sitting here in the D2 corner, watching you guys from afar, that's certainly what I've been thinking for quite some time. And I'm pretty tech/electronics savvy, have a VAG-COM, home network, etc.
Perhaps it is because I am computer savvy, and have been around application developers and system engineers trying to get squirrelly hardware/software to work, that I am naturally nervous about what we're seeing here. I would have rather seen the Germans spend time and development funds on dealing with long-term mechanical reliability issues, than with trying to out-gizmo the Japanese. Said another way, I'd much rather have a Japanese-reliability German car than a German car with more geegaws. And the Germans are never going to out-gadget the Japanese, it's just not going to happen.
