It looks like the retrofit isn't free anymore and I'd like to look into doing it myself. Couldn't find the parts on genuinevwaudiparts.com
anybody know what I need for this?

#ZAW269005 lists for $6.13 on genuinevwaudiparts.com
an internet search turned up that part number for an A6 or allroad. I'm guessing that the A8/S8 part has to be similar if it's not the same, so similar cost, right?

I am 99.9% sure that the bracket for the Allroad/A6/S6 is different....although, I have no way to verify that. You need #16 in this picture (4D0-813-545-C) and genuineaudiparts says that it is $79.33.

Here is what your "ZAW" bracket looks like:

I bet it's REALLY close, but I think the differences in rear seat widths between the C5 and the D2 is going to change the width of that bracket. It may be worth $6 to find out though......maybe.

I suppose the A8/S8 is just that much more rare than the A6/allroad
Thanks for looking it up. If I spend the $6 to find out, I'll let you know

In my opinion just use the seatbelt with the top tether anchor only. If you make sure that the seatbelt is TIGHT, then there is nothing to be afraid off. I think that the mod is usufull only for people who can't understand that the seatbelt has to be TIGHT. Oh I also placed a piece of blanket under the child seat to avoid any rips to the leather. Periodicaly you need to check on the seatbelt to make sure that it is still TIGHT. By saying TIGHT I mean that the child seat should not move at all. It takes some effort to do that but its much easier than installing the $250 bolts and nuts.
