All A8's came with electrically height adj. in US, but can't believe that would effect anything

The switch is on the steering column, not inside the steering wheel. I know I saw the same thing, but how could it effect the connections across the steering wheel?

My guess is that the electric height adjustment may take up some room in the area of this part...

(linkages and/or wiring harness) and the part your'e looking at is physically different, not electrically different. The part you were looking at at the dealer isn't listed as an A8 part at all, and as such may not be the correct physical size/shape. The electrical connectors are likely common, but if it doesn't fit, it won't work! These are all guesses- I'm with you, trying to decipher the Audi part numbering by model is a difficult thing sometimes.
