Default parts for rear left brake job, caliper is stuck

i'm confused, two different sources related to Audi dealers say that i need:
1 caliper
2 rotor
1 set of pads

why 2 rotor?

Also, would anybody know whether the D2 A8 uses the same discs at the rear than a Mk1 TT at the front?

thanks for any help.

Default If you are going to replace one rotor, you replace them both

If you are not going to replace the rotor, then you need none.

Default Thanks for the info

the other rotor is only about 8k miles old, i expected it would not do much difference to leave it there, wouldn't it? as you can see, i don't specifically understand the technicalities behind brake wear.

Thanks again!

If both rotors are 8K old, I wouldn't change them.

Default yet another particularity

there is only 1mm left on one pad of the defective caliper, the dealer says the rotor has overheated, perhaps the pad's bolts are now sticking out and touching the rotor? But i can't see a difference between the two rotors (color or otherwise) when looking at them through the wheel's spokes. Is it safer to replace that rotor or would the difference be minimal?

i know it's not a big deal, 80$ or so, but i don't want my dealer thinking he can screw me over, or doing not so significant repairs.

I see I have a lot to learn before becoming a d-i-yer...

Thanks PaulW!

Default replace both

you can get a pair of Zimmermann rotors for under $80

and buy or rent the caliper tool. I bought a universal kit from OTC with 6 adapters for $30. Do not cheap out and buy that cube POS.

I agree, rear calipers are known to hang up do them both while it's all apart.
