Default Some Michelin Pilot Sport A/S info...

A friend of mine at work recently got the same tires for his Lexus LS 430. He experienced the same pulling problem. After numerous dealer (tire and new car dealer) trips he learned that the tire does this under certain circumstances on relatively heavy cars. He ended having the tire dealer (Tire Rack, I think) replace the tires with another brand which solved the problem.

In short, I suspect that there is nothing wrong with the car but rather that the tires are not suitable for your application.

Well that's a little disturbing, I love these tires. Thanks.

Default Pilot A/S's- that is weird and exactly opposite of my

experiences. Pulled tires off my 99 A8 and replaced with Pilots. . . big improvement. .. and just put some on my A8L after pulling the Pirelli 19", no problem. Therefore, a few of their tires are excellant. . and a few with defects?

Default I don't think it's a defect but rather a design flaw...

where certain camber/caster/alignment settings standard for some cars (RS6, LS430 to name two) wack these otherwise fine tires out.

Default Pilots excellent on my car, no tracking problems

My only complaints are that money goes to the CESM in France and that they are a bit loud and harsh on asphalt with large exposed aggregate. Not as harsh as Dunlop A2s though.

The do seem to be a bit lightly built (I already had to plug one) but on a super highspeed tire you have to keep the rotating mass down.

I got a free JVC DVD player for buying them.

Default Lets go through this

You probably have a radial tire pull with multipe tires. If the set of Dunlops did not pull, and the Michelins do, I suspect its the tires. Believe it or not, a rear tire cause a car to pull. Isolating which ones are tough when you have multiple tires causing the problem.

To eliminate the alighnment, you will need to analyze your specs. Forget about the toe specs. Toe will cause tire wear or a crooked steering wheel. It will never cause a pull. The usual cause for a car to pull is usually caster. The left and right caster needs to be within a degree. If the caster is greater than a degree, it will pull to the lower side. For example, if the Left is 4deg and the right is 3 deg, it will pull to the right. Camber can also pull too, but not as much. Again you have to look at the difference. The difference between left and right can cause a drift. The car will drift to the higher side. ie if the left was o.2 deg and the right was 1.2 deg, it will drift to the right. Now if you have a combo of caster and camber split, it will pull hard.

Default Don't know about the RS6, but caster cannot be adjusted on the A8/S8, ...

mine is stuck at ~3 1/2 deg left and right.
