I am trying to replace the belt driven fan with an electric one and i cant get to the tensioner bolt very easily. Is there a trick for this?
I really liked the feature in my old 5000S that the fan ran afterward to keep help cool off the engine when parked. I figured with the 2 batteries ill have more then engough "spare" energy to run the fan with the car off untill cooled..
thanks

One of the first things to do is remove the serpentine belt.<ul><li><a href="http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/enginemechanical/tbreplace0.html">http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/enginemechanical/tbreplace0.html</a</li></ul>

Was over at Scot's house today, giving him moral support while he is doing his timing belt. Actually, should be even easier for me next weekend with the refresher course.
Anyways, instead of trying to get the 13mm socket on the tensioning device to rotate it, do the following:
Pull down on the belt at the bottom of the engine and engage it BELOW the metal tab shown below.
Then using a torx 25 bit, shove it in the hole that becomes visible once the belt has been put below the metal tab.

This will take the spring pressure off the tensioning device.
Very carfully, slide the belt off the smooth pulley (not grooved) that is lowest and closest to the driver's side. (See red box above.) This will be the easiest pulley.
