Pentosin G 012 coolant
I was just reading the Tech bulletin and I got a bit nervous. My mechanic did not use the original G012 coolant. Instead he used some kind of red stuff called Auto Club Extended life Anti freeze. Dex Cool compatible. Is this stuff OK? He said it is the same thing. It is labled safe for all aluminum engines and radiators. Should I go back and demand that they put the original stuff

There must be reason why Audi is putting stickers in the engine bay telling you to use their stuff..
There are more knowledgeable guys on this forum so only take this as my gut reaction: flush it and put the real stuff in. Any corrosion inside your engine block would be naaaasty!

I think you're probably OK.
I've had a small leak for months (think it's the plastic oil cooler lines), and I've been topping up with a solution of Havoline Extended Life Dex-Cool - it's orange in colour. I didn't use it until I researched it thoroughly online - on the Texaco site they do say it is G12 compatible. If you read the applicable section of the A8 manual this is what they say you need - G12. It has worked fine for me. The stuff your mechanic put in sounds like a similar product. If he's experienced with VW / Audi / Porsche, as I believe you said in a previous post, I'm sure he knows what he's doing.

Personally, I would change it out and put the Audi/VW stuff in
I've never found anything that is compatible with it....even though manufacturer's state that it is.
