On my Phatnoise 80GB disk, I can hold a LOT more music sampled at a much higher rate (192) and never have to carry it any where. Built into the car except for the cartridge I bring in when updating music collection. I still use iTunes to manage my music library and for ripping the CD's etc... I too have a 16gb iPhone, but would never use it for my entire music collection just because I want music sampled at higher rates.

I have 4400 songs in 21 gigs on my server, here in the house. In no situation anyone could reasonably point to, do I need to carry 4400 songs with me on my person.
I carry about 800 songs, even on my old 4G ipod (early adopter) and freshen them up nightly with iTunes with a smart playlist. None of them are sampled below 192.
Size of the ipod or iphone or phatbox is utterly irrelevant in modern times. Back when your ipod was 512M in size .. well YEAH it was small. That was a long time ago tho.
And again .. I don't "have to carry around" an ipod. It's built into my iphone. Does your phatbox replace your cellular phone? No.
