Yes, A6, but the same would work in the A8.
What makes an optimal holder is your personal use. If you use it much while driving, you need it to be in an ergonomic position for safe use.
Then, do you use it for many short conversations, or a few or even single long conversation in the course of a 'drive' or commute?

Anyway, mine is setup for many short conversations. I made a bracket, painted and baked (to harden the paint bond) and bent at the right location for my reach. can be dialed with fingertips while the hand is on the armest, and for speed dial/ voice regognition, press the button, say the name and the rest is automatic, integrated into the car's system. Same for recieving calls - one button, and you never even have to adjust your posture. If you want to use TIP vs. 'D' or have a drink in the holder, the mount swivels left and right with light pressure (enough so it can't move on its own when cornering) so you can access the TIP/Drink w/o the phone in the way. It is attached to the underside of the armrest, wht wires run through the interior of the armrest so they are all hidden whether it is up or down.

As the mouting bracket and cradle are black, there it blends acceptably from above (driver/pass view) when there is no phone in it. It could be further integrated to retract into the armrest, but I didn't feel it necessary as my phone would usually be out all the time (no need to fiddle to answer).
Just some well measured thoughts on the topic, since we all seem to be expressing them...
