Picked up the silver bullet!
My mechanic(the A8 tech)met me at the door to explain what he did. The entire MMI was replaced and latest sf downloaded(this can be done on any 04 A8L at the dealership. They go online, plug the car in and bingo!). He claimed that the screen always pops open now when the key is turned. Guess what didnt pop up AT ALL when I started it!! I had to hit the override button. Oh well, to me this is not a big issue. Subsequent starts this p.m. have been fine so Ill let it ride for now. The Evaporative Purge Valve failed(this discharges the excess fumes in the gas tank when the "brain" tells it to. These are on backorder, of course, because the A4 units are also failing and they take the same part! C`mon guys, fill that forward parts bin here in the states!! Also on order is an A-pillar trim piece which is loose. They replaced the right rear door threshhold piece which broke. The suspension system campaign was done, although I got a strange error signal when I tried to move the car back to Dynamic mode. The Energiemanager was replaced and Im back at 100% and the battery checked out o.k. For now, thats it. Its nice to be in "like" again! Goodbye FWD A6. Its funny how I seem to have found my smile again. Thanks for putting up with this rather long post. We`ll see how the next 3100 miles pan out!

greenie, did you see any pre-owned A8Ls on the lot?
As a matter of fact, they have a silver/sabre 01 with 42,000 on the clock and its assured and its a beauty! I see that the fumes from the interior detailing have you talking to yourself!
