All of us
Was supprised at how well the car handles. You just have to be smooth, very smooth. If you are the car will hang with the small ones. not much out there that can keep up with our cars that is not modified in some fasion. Paul had very fast lap times. There was a difference between ours cars. Paul and Randy had a lot less body roll and was less prone to becoming unstable going over the bumps in the track where as mine stock coming out of one of the corners where I should have been flat out I was about 50% because the track would unsettle the car to an uncomfortable sway. Now the car most likely could have held but I was not brave enough to find out. Paul and Randy's break upgrades helped them a bunch. The unmodified A8 had an issuse with over heating our pads when running a 80% or greater you could 2 hot laps in before the breaks got mushy or gave out. So if I do more track events I'll have to buy track pads. All in all a great event with good friends.

Default Excellent! and a brake question.

I hope someone got a pic of all four 8's lined up.

I need to do something re: brakes in the near future. Am I hearing I should bite the bullet, and do the PaulW or Brembo thing, or would you say that if I get some good rotors and track pads, I'd be OK for an infrequent track day?

Default My thoughts

I think if you did an event like we did, where run times are about 8 laps each, and you got high temperature pads, I don't think you would have much of a problem.

However, my brakes were just awesome! No brake fad whatsoever, but I did have Pagid Orange pads. If you really wanted to set up your car for the track, I would invest in a set of tires and then do the H&R's. The suspension makes a huge difference!

I would go with high temp pads, I doubt they would fade much, but just wouldn't have the effectivness of the larger brakes, but that's only a real concern at the end of the straight. For all other parts of the track, your driving skills will outweigh anything your brakes can do.

I have a few calls to make this morning, get some stuff rollin' then I will see what I have in my camera!

I had an absolute blast, and they all knew for sure that I was crazy! As my instructor said "he made the elephant dance". They just didn't think our cars could go around the track, but we showed them what an awesome car the A8 is. Has gobs and gobs of power and torque, IMO, it's faster than a S4 (power wise) unless it's pretty well hopped up.

Default Jim I have an extra set of front rotors if you want them otherwise I will sell them on EBAY

Ya, Stocks are fine if you do infrequent track days and stock pads are OK if you don't plan on pushing the envelope too far. Otherwise if you plan on tracking the car frequently them I would consider the upgrade.

Default I guess we're all driving "elephants" because my instructor...

...used almost the exact same words after I really pushed the car during the second run on Sunday. With a surprised tone in his voice and with his French accent he said "So I see...you actually cannnnn make an elephant dance..."
