Default POL about shift points. What do you guys think.

I drove my wife's car the other day and this is what I've observed.
1st to 2nd 10mph
2nd to 3rd 23mph
3rd to 4th 33mph
4th to 5th 41mph
I drive the car with very light throttle to see the shift points.
I am working on a circuit that would work like the "S" mode on the post facelift A8-S8. What would be ideal shift points?

Default Set it to .....

what your shift points are on your MT.
Smooth driving of course.

I have always felt standard is better.
You shift when it feels right.

Default I don't see a reason why any car should be in 5th gear at 1300 RPM.

My pre-facelift does that, during normal city driving it upshifts very quickly and it arrives at 5th between 1300 to 1500 RPM.

I don't think it should get there until 2000 RPM. In other words it should hold 4th around town if need be.

I guess that's why manual transmissions are made.

Default Can't compare with the manual.

As you can see 1st 4th and 5th are equal with the manual, but my car has much more wheel torque because of the final drive. Automatic= 2.7 x 1 manual 4.111 x 1.

Default Nice idea, Gabor. I'm busy but I'm going to try to make time tomorrow to get out and...

...come home with my personal answer to your question. As I understand you, you can reprogram our trannies to act in one somewhat aggressive way and short circuit all or some of the Audi coding and adaptive stuff? That sounds like an interesting idea which might considerably improve enjoyment of the car.

Tell me if I understood you correctly, and if I can swing it tomorrow, I'll go out and play and then email you or post.

Default

No shift less than 1700 RPM and it shouldn't run in gear at less than 1300 RPM

Default i wouldn't mind a little higher rev shift points,

but what i'd really like is for the car to downshift sooner. i'm still getting used to the car, but in comparison to my caravan and tahoe, both downshift with less throttle. i don't like having to almost floor it when i'm going only 50 to have it drop down a gear.

Default I just went out for a brief drive and in tip I find myself up-shifting between 2500 and 3000

but I usually jump out of first around 2000.

Default I'm coded at 00011 and even under light throttle...

...I already go to about 2000. I think it would drive nicely running to about 2500 under light throttle, with a friskier kick-down, if that's possible to engineer. When I've been driving around town for a while, the adaptive programming seems to put the kickdown almost completely to sleep. If I'm not in Tip and I have to ask it to hustle through a light or something, I feel like I'm in a V6 LeSabre.
